24 hours in Geneva

Do you remember how we couldn’t find any charger for our rental Polestar during the previous days of our trip? Well, our drive back to Geneva is no different! I have several chargers saved along our drive, but they all turn out to be occupied and we just want to get to our hotel. So, we decide to charge the car at the last possible spot, almost directly at Geneva airport. After spending a considerable amount of time figuring out how the charger works, we finally plug the car in, ready to go shop in the adjacent shopping mall. But hey, it’s already 6PM and everything is closed. We squat next to our car in an empty parking lot and after a while we give up. It won’t be returned with full battery.

Our hotel is a lovely Swiss chalet-style. We are completely drained after the day of driving and decide to order in. Then Martin realizes his passport is missing. We immediately create a whole conspiracy in our heads, how the receptionist and the bellboy plotted to steal our identities. It doesn’t take that long until we find the passport, luckily.

After a good nights sleep we set off to explore Geneva. We are loving the vibes of a quaint lakeside town, where the wealth is breathing down your neck from every side and yet, the people are so laid back.

Apparently, it’s the day when Geneva is hosting a marathon, so we clap and cheer for the runners. It only adds to the vibe, since everyone seems to be happy, well-wishing, and cheer.

We grab a quick breakfast in Starbucks where we get attacked by a flock of sparrows. Sun is already high up and it’s warm, but we are determined to walk the city. We walk through the old town, later by the shore, admire the Jet d’Eau and end up walking all the way to the United Nations. Kids are running through the fountains, cooling themselves off, so I obviously join in.

Obviously, Geneva is not the biggest city to get lost in for several days. But it is exactly what you expect it to be. International, rich, clean and laid back. Only if it wasn’t so expensive. This time we only had 24 hours to spend here, so we will definitely be back.
