American Southwest roadtrip – Williams to Long Beach, California
Our roadtrip is nearing its end. We are setting the direction towards Long Beach, my former home, the place I hold very dearly in my heart. September 17. The drive to Long Beach is long, so we decide to split the drive. I have great memories of Prescott, little town in the Prescott Valley, with a feel of the past – saloons on the famous Whisky Row will pull you in and you’ll feel like you are a part of the Gold Rush. So we spend several hours browsing the town, buying western hats and having lunch in the supposedly haunted Palace Saloon before crossing the border to California. September…
American Southwest roadtrip – Page to Williams, Arizona through Grand Canyon
We are saying goodbye to Utah and following the Colorado river towards the highlight of our trip – the majestic Grand Canyon. Crossing the picturesque mountains and valleys, sparsely populated parts of Arizona, until finally arriving at the East entrance of the Grand Canyon. September 16. We are greeted by a lovely park ranger at the entrance. She asks where are we from, I say Slovakia and she goes with “I had one family from Slovakia here!” So I proceed with asking “today?” and she says “no, like in the last 6 months.” After taking the obligatory pictures by the entrance sign, we drive through the Desert drive. We stop…
American Southwest roadtrip – Las Vegas to Page, Arizona
After 3 days full of eating, shopping, and strolling around the Sin City, the jet lag is finally gone and we are ready to continue with some more intense days of our roadtrip. We are leaving Nevada behind and setting the direction towards the national parks in Utah and Arizona. September 14. This might easily be the most beautiful part of the USA for me. Rocky and mountainous landscapes, ever-changing scenery, and a laid-back atmosphere. We managed to hit a period of crazy rain, where I couldn’t see anything ahead – not the best when you are in the middle of nowhere. Luckily, it only lasted a few minutes and…
The ultimate guide to your perfect stay in Las Vegas
Las Vegas is the entertainment capital of the world. I have visited four times and only that fourth time I got to actually enjoy being in the city. It is a unique place filled with dazzling lights, luxurious accommodations, and unforgettable experiences – but it can also be overwhelming, kitsch, and people that are… strange, let’s say. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a Vegas veteran, this city never fails to amaze. In this guide, I’ll help you plan your dream Las Vegas vacation, with my personal recommendations for where to stay, what to do, and places to drink and eat. Where to stay Things to do Where to grab…
American Southwest roadtrip – Kingman to Las Vegas
Yesterday, after a long monotonous drive, we reached Kingman, Arizona. As it usually works with roadtrips, we have another day full of driving (and adjusting to jet lag) ahead, further exploring the American Southwest, before finally reaching Las Vegas for a deserved 3 day relax with the car parked deep down in the parking garage. But first, let’s explore Kingman! Kingman is a small city located in northwestern Arizona. It is situated along the historic Route 66 and is known for its stunning desert landscapes, mountains all around, and scenic beauty. Kingman also has a rich history, with numerous museums and attractions that showcase the area’s Native American heritage, mining…
American Southwest roadtrip – Los Angeles, California to Kingman, Arizona
In 2015, I spent a semester in Long Beach, California. My parents couldn’t visit at the time, so in 2019 we embarked on a parents-daughter roadtrip through the western USA. Long story short, things happened and we had to cut the trip short. So in September 2022, we tried again. This time, all went (for the most part) smoothly and we had a great time exploring the land of the free. I had it all planned so well. We were scheduled to land in Los Angeles in early afternoon and since we already explored the area last time, we would get our car and start driving east, towards Palm Springs.…
24 hours in Geneva
Do you remember how we couldn’t find any charger for our rental Polestar during the previous days of our trip? Well, our drive back to Geneva is no different! I have several chargers saved along our drive, but they all turn out to be occupied and we just want to get to our hotel. So, we decide to charge the car at the last possible spot, almost directly at Geneva airport. After spending a considerable amount of time figuring out how the charger works, we finally plug the car in, ready to go shop in the adjacent shopping mall. But hey, it’s already 6PM and everything is closed. We squat…
The shore of Lake Geneva & Swiss Riviera
May 2022 We wake up in our little hotel in Publier, France. Direction Evian! I normally research where to park, but get convinced that we will definitely find something. Well, we don’t, so we just circle around the town and are about to give up and continue our drive. In the end, we manage to park in Hilton’s hotel garage and walk towards Source Cachat and Source des Cordeliers, where people of Evian come with their empty bottles and fill them up with a fresh mineral water. We can’t resist tasting it – and don’t like it. After a short stop in the supermarket we sit on a bench by…
The touch of French Alps in Chamonix
May 2022 Landed in Geneva. The following morning we pick our rental Polestar up, I get familiar with the car and off we go, direction Chamonix! The drive is beautiful. Swiss lakes change into small and later huge mountains all around us. Altitude rises and so does the excitement! It’s our first time trying an electric car so I make sure to find every possible parking with a charger in Chamonix. We find what we think is the most central parking, we spin around going from the first floor all the way to the top, but the charger is nowhere to be found. No stress, we still have 80% battery!…
